Back

General

All pneumococci, both virulent and avirulent strains possess a common polysaccharide, F-antigen. F-antigen is a lipoteichoic acid, with a polysaccharide part that has the same repeat as CWPS. This part is then linked to a diacylated glycerol residue via a glucose residue1.

Clinical relevance

F-antigen is a lipoteichoic acid, with a polysaccharide part that has the same repeat as CWPS. This part is then linked to a diacylated glycerol residue via a glucose residue1. Lipocontamination is not assayed and may vary from batch to batch.

Product description

F-antigens are produced by purifying the sugar from a non-capsule-bearing pneumococcus. Lipocontamination is not assayed and may vary from batch to batch.

Use

Pneumococcal F-antigen is used as adsorption material in immunological investigations.
